Buggy Bandits (buggybandits.com) is a free game that runs in your web browser; "we" means the people who make it. Questions: [email protected].
What we collect, and why
- Analytics (Google Analytics 4). To see how many people play and where they get stuck, we count visits and a few game events: starting a game; starting, passing or failing a story mission; finishing a chapter; reaching a new level; reaching five wanted stars; playing a poker hand; reaching a town; and play time. With these, Google Analytics collects standard technical data: an online identifier kept in a cookie, pages viewed, approximate location (country or region), device, browser and screen size, and how you arrived (for example from a YouTube video). Google's advertising features, ad personalization and Google Signals are turned off; we never use this data for ads.
- Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are not tracked with cookies unless they choose "Allow" on the banner (Google Consent Mode). Without consent, Google receives only cookieless, aggregated signals.
- Players under 13. The game asks for a year of birth before the first title screen. If it shows a player under 13, no analytics data is collected from that browser at all.
- Your saved game and settings stay in your browser's local storage on your device: your save, your options, your analytics choice and the age group from that question (adult, teen or child; never the year itself). None of it is sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data deletes it.
- No accounts, no chat, no uploads. Playing never asks for your name, email or other personal details.
- Supporter Pack purchases (optional, when offered) are handled by our reseller, Lemon Squeezy (a Stripe company), under its own privacy policy. It collects your payment details, which we never see, plus your email address, name and country to complete the sale. It shares the order details (name, email, country, what you bought) with us, so we can support and refund your purchase. To unlock the pack, the game sends your license key to Lemon Squeezy's license service to check it, then keeps the key and an activation number in your browser's local storage. The game checks the key again every couple of weeks, so a refunded key stops working.

Turn analytics off
You can stop analytics in this browser at any time. The choice is kept on this device; the game works the same either way.
Other services the page loads
- Fonts come from Google Fonts and the 3D engine (three.js) from cdnjs (Cloudflare). Your browser contacts them to download these files, which shares your IP address with them, as with any website.
- Buy Me a Coffee. The "Buy me a coffee" link opens buymeacoffee.com, a separate site with its own privacy policy. Nothing from it loads in the game unless you follow the link, and we receive only what you choose to share there (such as your name and message) and the amount, never your payment details.
- Hosting is by DigitalOcean, whose servers keep ordinary access logs (IP address, time, requested file) for security and operations.
Your choices and rights
- In Europe, use the banner. Anywhere, you can block analytics with your browser's privacy settings or a tracker blocker; the game works the same.
- The game does not currently change its behavior in response to Do Not Track signals.
- Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or California law) you may have rights to access or delete data about you, or to object to its use. We hold no account data, so most requests concern Google Analytics data; email us and we will help. Visitors in the EEA and UK may also complain to their data protection authority.
- Legal basis (EEA/UK): your consent, for analytics cookies.
Children
The game is intended for players aged 17 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; the age question turns analytics off for them. If you believe a child's data has been collected, email us and we will delete what we can.
Changes
If the game starts collecting anything new (for example if we add a store or ads), we will update this page and the date above.
